Sydney Hunter Kleinrock (b. 1996, NY) is an artist and hand-poke tattooer based in Brooklyn, NY, who designs, constructs, and quilts canvas into structures that become the substrate for her paintings. Honoring of the inherent fragmentation of the quilt, Kleinrock lays down abstract washes and recognizable forms across the stuffed surfaces, drawing on snippets from her memory and imagination. When viewed as a whole, the sections recount stories free of linear narrative, depicting moments of growth and decay, chaos and calm; dualities that evoke our entangled influence on nature through the cyclical passage of time.
Kleinrock is currently pursuing an MFA in Painting/Printmaking at Yale School of Art (2028). She has held solo exhibitions at Club George, Northampton, MA, and Hampshire College Art Gallery, Amherst, MA. Her recent group exhibitions include those at 81 Leonard Gallery, New York, NY; IRL Gallery, New York, NY; Stowaway Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; My Pet Ram, New York, NY; Ely Center of Contemporary Arts, New Haven, CT; and, The Springfield Museum, Springfield, MA. She also has an upcoming solo exhibition at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, San Jose, CA, opening in 2026. Kleinrock has participated in residencies at ChaNorth and Vermont Studio Center. Her work has been published in New American Paintings, Young Space, NPR, I Like Your Work Podcast, and Frontrunner Magazine.
