Stellarhighway is glad to announce that in light of the recent weather events in Kentucky, Mike Ousley's home state (b. 1976, Hippo, KY), 10% of all sales of work by the artist through December 2022 will be donated to two local chapters of the American Red Cross: the Western Kentucky Chapter, to provide on-going support for those still affected by last December’s tornado; and, the Eastern Kentucky Chapter, toward immediate relief for those affected by the recent floods.
Born the son of a coal miner in Eastern Kentucky and having traveled all around Appalachia and the Blue Ridge Mountains, Mike Ousley envisions his paintings as ballads to the people, places and culture of the region. Subverting stereotypical perceptions with dark humor and a played-up naïveté, his paintings seek to reclaim the Appalachian narrative through the region's rich storytelling heritage.
